Golden Hill Community Garden Harvest Fair!September 9th, 2013
There will be Morris dancing, music, facepainting, free kids activities, cake and pizzas fresh from our fabulous new frog shaped clay pizza oven! There will also be vegetable basket competitions for local allotment holders and everyone is invited to enter the dressed scarecrow competition as well as a vegetable art competition! They will also be selling their ‘Grown Locally with Love’ delicious vegetable chutney.
The garden has been enjoyed by lots of different groups this summer, adults with learning difficulties from Soundwell, children from St Judes, local Brownies, Pied Piper Nursery, young people from the college and Kings Weston Special School. They also ran the fabulous Golden Summer of Fun activity days when 7-14 year olds had a great time forming tribes, building shelters, making amazing art with clay from the pond, cooking pizzas and holding the Ecolympics!
Their Wednesday open volunteer days continue to be popular – everyone is welcome along to help out between 10am – 4pm, they have always got a range of jobs to suit ability, interest and energy levels. All the volunteers have enjoyed taking home the harvest from aubergines to watermelons and carrots to corn on the cob!
This autumn they are going to be busy making a start on their low impact eco build shelter so if you ever watched Grand Designs and wanted to have a go then go and get stuck in! They will be looking for help with the foundations and raising the green roof.
