Family Cycling Event at St Pauls Adventure Playground

Local charity Life Cycle UK will be running its second ‘Family Cycling Event’ at St Pauls Adventure Playground on Saturday 23rd March, midday to 4pm.

The event aims to support families to cycle with their children. Central to the event will be Kidi-Bike Swap; Dr Bike and an equipment try out and cycle skills sessions. Life Cycle staff will also be on hand with information and advice on cycling with children.

The Kidi Bike Swap will be an opportunity for children to swap their outgrown bike for a larger one, or for children who don’t own a bike to purchase a refurbished bike at very low cost. Life Cycle is asking families bring along their unwanted and outgrown children’s bikes, which they can swap for free for one of their 35 refurbished kids bikes. Families who don’t have a bike to swap can still come along, and will be able to purchase a refurbished children’s bike for just £10.

Other activities include Dr Bike – Life Cycle’s mobile mechanic who will be available to check and carry out minor repairs to bikes; Life Cycle will also have a bike trailer, a tag-a-long and a bike with a bike seat available for parents to try out, and a balance bike for toddlers to try. Trained instructors will be on hand to offer taster sessions to any children who parents want to get going. Life Cycle also plan to run some cycle skills games for kids to try out.

Poppy Brett, director of Life Cycle UK said

‘It is a vital part of making sure that Bristol has a cycling culture that we get cyclists going from an early age, we keep them going, and we take measures to keep new parents cycling. Our Family Cycling event tackles all of these objectives.’

Jon Rogers, Lib Dem councillor for the ward and retired GP said,

“Encouraging children and young people to enjoy cycling from an early age makes sense for their health and fitness, as well as helping the environment and reducing the cost of local family travel. And LifeCycle UK does so much great work for all ages. An event not to be missed!”

The event is free of charge and runs at St Paul’s Adventure Playground, St Agnes, Bristol, BS2 9LL and will start at midday.
