Big Bike Ride for Breast Cancer

Local resident and Gloucester Road trader Nick Hennessy (pictured right with wife and fellow traders) embarks on a London to Paris bike ride in aid of Breast Cancer

Nick Hennesy who many of us know from popular local restaurant Delmonico, recently got in touch with me to tell me about his forthcoming plans to tackle a London to Paris bike ride in honour of his wife, who has been battling breast cancer.

Nick sets out on his four day ride that will see him peddling a massive 313 miles on June 13th 2012.  He has taken on this challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Care that his wife was sadly diagnosed with in December 2010.

Nick told me, “After a lot of confusing information it was decided she should receive surgery and chemotherapy. After four rounds of chemotherapy she had to have further surgery which included breast reconstruction. However the good news is she is now on the mend – she’s been back in work since January and seems to be getting better.”

Nick feels it is important something positive comes out of this experience and decided to take on this epic bike ride to help raise both awareness and funds for the cancer charity.

The cycle ride, organised through Discovery Adventure, will start in Blackheath in the capital and pass through the Kent countryside, then cross the Channel and continue through the small villages and medieval market towns of Northern France.

Nick has the support of friends and traders and is now appealing to the good will of local residents to get behind the ride.  He has already managed to raise £1,300 but would like to double this figure and is looking for new supporters and sponsors.
