The launch of the new Bishopston BeanstalksOctober 23rd, 2013
On Monday November 4th, Pied Piper Playgroup becomes Bishopston Beanstalks Pre-School. With an emphasis on learning through play, children at Bishopston Beanstalks will flourish in the care of skilled, experienced practitioners, within the Bishopston Methodist Church premises, on vibrant Gloucester Road.
Provision – Bishopston Beanstalks Pre-school is registered with OFSTED and takes a maximum of 24 children per session, with four highly qualified practitioners and a support worker present each day. The setting offers a large, airy hall and other break-out spaces including a small garden. Regular outings are made in the locality and to St Andrews Park, Bristol School of Gymnastics etc. Older children are invited to take part in our Outdoor Adventure Club, run along forest school lines.
A regular morning includes carpet-time for all the children, small group sessions, lots of free-play, a snack-cafe, physical play, songs and stories. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the setting; volunteering for rota-duty help, fundraising and sharing their wealth of skills and experiences with the children.
Opening Hours and Available Places – Bishopston Beanstalks welcomes children from the term in which they turn three years old, until school age. It runs over four mornings a week during term-times, from 9.15am until 1pm. Parents are invited to come and visit the setting well in advance of needing a place and to discuss their requirements with Sarah, the lead practitioner.
A New Way Of Working – Bishopston Beanstalks is a newly established workers co-operative: It is a pre-school managed by its practitioners and parent volunteers, thanks to the support of the Avon Co-operative Development Agency (CDA) and the Bristol Association of Neighbourhood Daycare (BAND).
As a not-for-profit enterprise, staff can prioritise using their extensive knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to provide the best opportunities for the children in their care; The EYFS guides good practice and is used in the planning of innovative programmes of learning, based on the childrens interests.
History – Bishopston Beanstalks has grown out of the well-regarded Pied Piper Pre-School Playgroup which was run by Bishopston Methodist Church since 1970. Earlier this year the church committee offered the management of the pre-school to the current staff members, who took the opportunity and ran with it!
Holly, mum of Tavey and Jasmine, says: My son thoroughly enjoyed his two years at the playgroup and has gone on to have a great start at primary school; my daughter is now following in his footsteps at Bishopston Beanstalks. The practitioners are so experienced and caring, and I wish them all the best with Bishopston Beanstalks, which I am sure will be a great success!
