Gurt Lush Choir perform Mega Mikado!December 23rd, 2012
The Gurt Lush Choir will be performing a full version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado at the Colston Hall in February.
The production, in collaboration with Bristol Schools Philharmonia, Opera Anywhere and singers from local schools, will provide a rare opportunity for Bristol’s biggest community choir to perform alongside professional opera singers. With a full orchestra made up of the most talented young musicians in the city, it will also be the first time that the choir has performed with accompaniment, providing a marked contrast to the its usual repertoire.
With around 250 singers making up the opera’s chorus, and 60 young people making up the orchestra, this “Mega Mikado” could be the biggest ever! The concert is on 2nd February 2013 at the Colston Hall, and tickets are available from the Colston Hall website, www.colstonhall.org, and box office. All proceeds from the concert will go to St Peters Hospice.
Gurt Lush Choir rehearses on Monday evenings in St Werburghs, Tuesday evenings in St Andrews, Thursday lunchtimes in Redland and Thursday evenings in Southville. The choir still has space for new members. The choir repertoire includes English and Eastern European folk, classical, gospel and pop in up to eight part harmony.
