Gloucester Road Cookery School named as one of best in the countryNovember 20th, 2013
It was runner up in the Best Day Course/Food Learning Experience Award 2013 in the UK Cookery School of the Year Awards.
The Bristol School, which is part of Nailsea Electrical, won the award for its school foraging sessions with city chef Toby Gritten, who owns the Pump House and Bird in the Hand.
Nick Wyke, from www.Lookingtocook.co.uk which ran the awards, told 102: it was a really tough field and we were impressed with your submission – it sounded like a rich and rewarding experience for the school children and a great mix of indoors/outdoors and hands-on fun. Hopefully you’ll be able to run more of these days/courses.
Giles Pushman, who manages 102 Cookery School, said: To be named as runner up in this prestigious competition was a fabulous way to end our first year in business.
The foraging classes for school children are a nature walk with a difference as they find natural ingredients safely before learning how to cook.
The trips have been run as part of our Bristol School Campaign, Its Cool to Cook, which aims to get more young people cooking.
It is the third award for Nailsea Electrical this year as owner Ben Gilks was named Entrepreneur of the Year in The Bristol Business Awards and the company was named best independent store in the country in the Independent Business Awards 2013.
This year saw the company open Kitchens with Nailsea Electrical to complement the cookery store and the appliance sales.
