Get Growing Garden Trail!

We enjoyed visiting the ‘Get Growing Garden Trail’ on Saturday 9th June on a rare bright, sunny day! We started at the top entrance to the Horfield Organic Orchard where I bought some wild rocket for my window sill and we enjoyed a most welcome piece of homemade cake!

The recent rain meant there had been an impressive growth spurt and all the plants and trees looked very healthy.  We wound our way through the Orchard and the many allotment plots to the Golden Hill Community Allotment and Edible Forest at the bottom of the site.

We visited the launch of the community allotment just a few weeks ago but the difference in appearance and the amount of plants that had grown was both impressive and inspiring.

Spending time in this little oasis set in the middle of hundreds of surrounding houses it was easy to see why gardening is so popular. I know a great deal of work goes into maintaining an allotment plot but viewing the lines of lettuces, onions, peas and beans (to name but a few) ready for harvest it looked to be a rewarding way to spend your time.
