Exciting News from Friends of Horfield Common

The Friends of Horfield Common would like to share the following exciting news with Bishopston Matters readers…

FOHC Annual Summer Picnic – Sunday 17th August, 12 – 5pm on Horfield Common

IMG_2760We are really pleased to be able to announce that we have secured funding through Bishopston, Cotham and Redland Neighbourhood Partnership to support our Annual Summer Picnic event for 2014, which will take place this year on Sunday 17th August between 12-5pm.

The Summer Picnic is always a popular and well-supported event and we are delighted to be able to deliver this again. Please do come along and join us! Bring a picnic and a blanket & join in the fun!

In the evening, Ardagh Bowling and Sports Club will take over from FOHC to run a family friendly Bar-B-Q and Band event inside the Ardagh from 5pm until late. This format has worked really well in previous years, and been extremely well-supported by local residents. It is wonderful to be able to work in partnership with the bowlers on the event again this year.

More information will be sent out soon – there will be games, arts activities, stalls and lots more happening on the day, so please do get this date into your diaries & we’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Call for Local Artists Proposals for Summer Picnic Event

As part of the successful application to BCR NP for funding to support the Summer Picnic, we have a small amount available to commission some local artists to make some work specifically for the event. If you are a local artist/designer/photographer/creative and have an idea for a project on the common and/or workshop-type activity on the day – please let us know!

If you would like to submit an expression of interest – please send us a short proposal (max. 2 sides of A4 including images etc) before 27th July & we will be in touch as soon as possible after that date. The picnic takes place on Sunday August 17th, so any proposed work will need to be achievable within that timescale.

We look forwards to hearing from you!

FOHC Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will be taking place this year on Monday 28th July at 7pm in the Ardagh Pavilion. This is a formal meeting open to all FOHC members, so please do come along if you would like to find out more about the work that we have been doing over the past 12-18 months, or if you are interested in volunteering and getting more involved in our work.

Nominations for election to FOHCs committee should be submitted by Monday 21st July – please do get in touch if you would like any more information about what is involved in this. There is information on the website about FOHC’s aims, current projects and activities, which might also be of interest: www.friendsofhorfieldcommon.com
