Libraries across Bristol will be celebrating 20 years of a national campaign to promote early years reading, starting today Monday 5th November 2012. Bookstart, which is run by the reading charity Booktrust, gives free book packs to every baby in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
Bookstart 20 events will include two parties at Mothercare in Bristol. Families are invited to join the children’s library team at the store in Eastgate retail park, Eastville on Friday, November 9 for special rhyme time sessions. These will be held between 11.30am and noon and to 2.30pm. Children will also have the chance to meet the Bookstart Bear and enter a prize draw. The winners will receive a set of picture books.
Roxanne Lewington, Early Years Librarian for Bristol Libraries, said: We are all very excited in Bristol Libraries to be celebrating 20 years of this very important early years reading scheme. “We would encourage as many families as possible to come along to one of the parties and join in the celebrations.
