Raising Funds for East African PlaygroundsFebruary 6th, 2012
I was first introduced to the charity East African Playgrounds through the University of the West of England last term, as I wanted to get involved with some volunteering work helping children. East African Playgrounds spend time helping schools and building communities in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. It costs £6,000 to pay for a playground in Africa, compared to £150,000 in the United Kingdom! East African Playgrounds believe that alongside education, children need to access sports and play activities to reach their full potential. The charity visits Uganda each summer, this year they will be completing 8 projects. Each project consists of 10 volunteers who have a target of £6,000 to raise. This is the cost for the materials to build the playground, we do the labour ourselves. All materials are bought from Ugandan locals, helping their economy. EAP also help to provide internships and help within the community.
My personal target is a minimum of £600 for my share of funding the playground (all other costs eg flights I pay personally) and would appreciate any donations from local people. If you feel you can help with this worthy cause please visit my donation page at: http://www.justgiving.com/Megan-Thomas or you can text a donation, to do this simply text GLPM53 with the amount eg £5.
Many thanks in advance,
