Yogafurie celebrates first year of being green
January 30th, 2017
A local eco-friendly hot yoga studio based in Ashley Down has celebrated one year of opening having seen more than 15,000 class places being booked and a number of green credentials having been reached.
Yogafurie, opened in January 2016. The team previously taught from rented premises.
Founded and owned by lead practitioner Ed Wood, the business is run entirely on sustainable sources and a key milestone in the evolution of the studio has been saving 4,500 saving in electricity units, which is more than the average UK household uses in a single year.
In 2016, Yogafurie became the first stockist in the UK for groundbreaking yoga leggings made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.
A further development has seen the creation of the Yogafurie Academy, which has put Bristol on the national and international map as being a centre of excellence for hot yoga teacher training.
Ed Wood, the founder and owner of the Yogafurie studio, said: “We have had a fantastic year and have been delighted with the way the business has grown.
“Bristol’s yoga community is stronger than ever and there is a lot of great practice to choose from, so it makes it even more special that we are seeing our client base growing at pace and there is so much ongoing interest in what we are doing.
“Our teacher training academy is also the next step in bringing the very best hot yoga practitioners to Bristol and we’ve had a great level of interest in this arena, too, so 2017 is already shaping up to being even better.”
Ed, who ditched the rat race as a commercial IT consultant in 2012 had taken up teaching hot yoga and used portable heaters.
The popularity of his classes and finding premises culminated in the creation of the studio in Ashley Down that delivers the optimum environment – 42˚C exactly – for hot yoga practice.
Other green and ethical initiatives include, water saving shower systems in the changing rooms, recycling and working with the Toilet Twinning Association, where just £60 buys a toilet and installation of clean water sources in a disadvantaged community.
