Tennis club is back in the black

Twelve years after taking on a £25,000 loan to develop its clubhouse and courts, St Andrews-based Bristol Central Tennis Club has made the final repayment to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

Members past and present were at the club to see club chairman Carol Weeks and treasurer Chris Blake hand over the last instalment to Tony Barker (chairman) and Clive Sampson (secretary) from the Avon LTA.

The loan was combined with a National Lottery grant to allow Central to re-develop its clubhouse, resurface the courts and install floodlighting.

“We now have a facility to be proud of and a thriving, friendly club that caters for all ages and all standards of player,” said Carol Weeks.

The club has teams in the Avon leagues and is making plans for the summer season which starts in May. For more information go to www.bctc,org
