Page 53 Pop-up Booksellers Celebrate World Book Day

Thursday 7 March is World Book Day, the annual celebration of books and reading. Anyone with primary aged children will surely already have measured their child up for their BFG costume or will be putting the finishing touches to their little one’s Gangsta Granny outfit. It’s traditionally seen as a day for school children. At Page 53 we believe that adults need to be reminded of the delights of reading too and that books – real books that you can touch, flick through and dip into – are something which people of all ages should celebrate. The success of the Gloucester Road Book Fair, run by Page 53 in December, confirmed our hunch that this is a book-loving community. Now we want to bring books back to our wonderful high street again.

The Page 53 World Book Day celebration will take place at Alchemy Bar, 198 Gloucester Road from 4pm until 11pm. We will be selling books for all ages and tastes – contemporary and classic fiction, work of local authors as well as non-fiction and poetry. Book Island, the local publisher of beautiful children’s picture books will be there offering activities for children and there will also be appearances by Nikesh Shukla, local novelist and Observer columnist, and Emily Koch, whose debut novel If I Die Before I Wake has been enjoyed by so many.

So, whether you’d like to pop in and enjoy a coffee and a browse while your children are entertained by our storytellers, or if you’d like to hear one of our local novelists read from their work whilst you sip a cocktail later in the evening, we hope you will join Page 53 to celebrate the joy of books. Real, touchable, flickable, dip-able books.
