Lynne Fernandes Opticians Awarded for Vision and Family ValuesApril 24th, 2018
The family-run Knowle practice, established on Wells Road for over 80 years, was recognised for their clinical excellence, expert care and personal service within the community.
Directors Lynne Fernandes and her husband Gerard, who run two other opticians in the Bristol area, said: “We spend a lot of time focusing on families, from generation to generation, because this is a key part of what makes our business work and makes our working life interesting and worthwhile.”
The Family Practice of the Year Award highlights the exceptional work the practice does by providing a wide range of different clinics to benefit patients of all ages, such as myopia control, dyslexia, blepharitis, a dry eye clinic, and a private emergency eye service. They also offer contact lenses, a wide selection of frames and designer sunglasses.
Lynne, who previously won Optometrist of the Year in 2016, and has two other practices on Gloucester Road and the High Street, Nailsea, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our Wells Road practice has won Family Opticians of the Year 2018 in the prestigious, national Optician Awards. Established for over 20 years, these awards are recognised as the benchmark of excellence in the optical community, showcasing the best in achievement, ability and performance.
“We were told the large number of entries made the judges’ decision particularly difficult, but the clear family culture, emphasis on delighting every customer and the genuine care delivered by our expert and professional team shone through.”
As part of their service to the community Lynne Fernandes Optometrists created an Eye Sense Direct Debit Scheme, which is designed to save patients money by paying for their appointments throughout the year and to provide instant access to the specialist care when they need it.
Lynne and Gerard, who live in Bishopston with their two sons, also regularly attend local schools to promote the importance of good eye health and care, as well as encouraging the study of science to help educate the children about optometry and also as a future career option.
Patient, Cath Gutteridge of Knowle, has attended the Wells Road practice along with her husband and their three children, twins age six and a daughter age nine.
“We always get great customer service and personal attention from the optician and all the staff at the branch. My children have been put at ease and actually enjoy having their eyes tested. Furthermore, the opticians opened up their practice to our school and hosted 90 children explaining how eye tests work and the importance of having your eyes checked. I attended this trip as a parent helper and saw the children have a great fun and educational experience.”Back to news
