Fox & Feather and a.k.a Hairdressing put on a charity fashion showNovember 20th, 2014
An “amazing” time was had by all on the first Fox & Feather and a.k.a Hairdressing collaborative fashion show. The two family run businesses had been planning the event for over 3 months, using the twitter #BristolFashionParty to advertise the event, and were thrilled with the turn out.
“We really wanted to keep this a Gloucester Road event” said Beverley Cussen, Director of a.k.a Hairdressing. “We loved working together, and it was great that other local businesses were keen to help. Grape and Grind supplied us with the bubbly, and Lynne Fernandes opticians supplied glasses to accessorise the models’ looks. Local photographer Matt Lamoon kindly donated his time to capture the events of the night.
The evening started with the 8 models arriving at a.k.a’s salon ready for Beverley and Richard’s team to transform their looks. Richard commented “the whole team got involved, there was a great buzz in the salon. Our team were running around helping each other, while the Fox and Feather gang were setting up the catwalk around us. It was hectic in a really fun way. I felt so proud of our team, we’re so lucky to have them.”
The event was a ticket only evening costing just £5.00, with all profits going to CLIC Sargent Charity. Despite the very rainy evening, the lucky ticket holders started to arrive at Fox & Feather, 43 Gloucester Road, Bishopston and were greeted with a glass of bubbly, with everyone in high spirits. After a browse with a glass in hand, the action shifted three shops down to a.k.a at 37 Gloucester Road. The lights dimmed, the music started, and the show was on.
Fox and Feather showcased some fabulous Autumn/Winter outfits for both men and women. There really was something for everyone, from urban street looks to glitzy dresses perfect for the Christmas Season. “As menswear is relatively new to the store, it was brilliant to be able to showcase the new menswear range” said Clare, owner and buyer for Fox & Feather.
After the show everyone was off again back to Fox & Feather where the a.k.a Team had set up seats to transform guests with mini hair make overs, showing off quick easy new styles for the AW2014 season.
“We love to stay ahead of the game” said Ellie Kirby of a.k.a “I have been lucky enough to be a member of the L’Oréal i.d Artist team for the past 2 years. As a member you get to work with L’Oréal on the up and coming “it” looks. It’s one way we stay ahead of current trends. It’s been so fun seeing this all come to life.”
Everyone got a goodie bag full of treats from the collaborators, and one lucky winner Sara
Mills from Cotham won a years supply of Redken hair care products in the raffle. “I’m so thrilled, I never win anything” she beamed. Local bloggers She and Hem attended the fashion show and commented “fingers crossed that this will become an annual event!”
The a.k.a team agreed “next time we want to go bigger! It’s great supporting local charities, and we would love to involve more local businesses on Gloucester Road for the next event.” Richard joked “I like to think that in a few years we will give The Mall’s fashion show a run for it’s money, from little acorns……..”
Well with the comments of the guests and the enthusiasm of the team, we wouldn’t be surprised.Back to news
