Fancy Dress Fanatics at Downing Street!

Local entrepreneur Fran Gore was recently invited to 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister David Cameron to celebrate the success of her thriving business, Fancy Dress Fanatics.

Fran started the business based at 212 Cheltenham Road with a loan from The Start Up Loans Company a government-funded initiative that provides vital support in the form of a repayable loan together with a business mentor for entrepreneurs across England and Northern Ireland.

To celebrate the success of the scheme, which is chaired by Dragon’s Den star James Caan, up to 60 loan recipients were invited to participate in ‘The Downing Street Market’, an opportunity for the Prime Minister and other Downing Street staff to browse and purchase.

Fran told us, “I was delighted to have the chance to go to Downing Street and take a selection of images of our costumes. I’m am also so grateful to Start Up Loans and James Caan for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to turn my business dream into a reality.”

Fran’s business was initially inspired by her grandmother, Jo Lindsay, 75, a professional costumier who has worked with the BBC, Royal Shakespeare Company and Pinewood Studios over the last 50 years making thousands of outfits for television, film and theatre projects.

Fran adds: “My Grandmother has been amazing. She’s made well over 100 costumes for me so far, and is making more all the time to add to the hire collection. But the biggest help has been her wonderful advice and knowledge of the industry. We’ve become quite a team and it’s brought us even closer together.”

We are lucky to have Fancy Dress Fanatics right on our door step! It specialises in regal, historical costumes along with TV and film- inspired costumes such as Captain Hook, Jedi Knights and a range of super heroes, pop in check our all the goods they have on offer soon!
