Clifton High School teachers cycle the country for cancer charity

Three teachers from Clifton High School spent their Easter holidays cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for leading cancer charity, Penny Brohn UK.

Mr Taylor, Mr Rimmer and Mr Wallington decided to organise the cycling event after a number of families and staff from Clifton High School were supported by the Bristol-based charity.
The challenge saw the intrepid teachers cycle nearly 1,000 miles over the ten day event. On the eighth day of the ride the trio were given a much needed boost as they passed through Bristol and were cheered on by pupils from the school as they cycled across the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Mr Taylor, Head of School Sport and Extra-Curricular at Clifton High School, said: “Penny Brohn UK is a wonderful charity that supports people to cope with a cancer diagnosis. Families, children and the staff within our school have directly benefitted from the work of Penny Brohn UK so we decided to cycle the length of the country to raise money for this excellent charity so they can continue to support more individuals and their families in the future.”
On hearing the news that the trio had completed their mammoth cycle, Dr Alison Neill, Head of School, said: “Frozen, wet through and still smiling; such an outstanding achievement! Congratulations, Mr Taylor, Mr Rimmer and Mr Wallington. Clifton High salutes you!”

Laura Madams, Fundraising Assistant at Penny Brohn UK said: “We were delighted that Mr Taylor, Mr Rimmer and Mr Wallington took on such an amazing challenge in aid of Penny Brohn UK. All the sponsorship money raised will help us support more people affected by cancer to live as well as possible for as long as possible.”

With nearly 40 years’ experience, Penny Brohn UK recognises that people with cancer need more than medicine to live well with the disease. It is the only charity in the UK to take an integrated whole person approach to cancer support using evidence-based therapies that work alongside medical treatment to achieve the best health and wellbeing.
