Bristol Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society Celebrate their 50th anniversary

Bristol Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society in their 50th anniversary performance of ‘Iolanthe’.

In this very special Jubilee season at BGSOS, they are delighted to launch their 50th annual production with the winning combination of Director, John Telfer; Musical Director, Eric Wetherell and Designer, James Helps.

John Telfer, with his intuitive style and vast experience, ensures yet another cleverly witty interpretation of a typically whimsical G&S plot.  Musically, Eric Wetherell’s esteemed leadership and attention to accuracy are inspirational and his reduced orchestration delivers a full sound, illustrating Sullivan’s work in every detail.  All of this is brought to life by Designer James Helps who has been given a blank canvas and once again creates a magical backdrop.

Iolanthe is a tale of passion and sacrifice, involving the most unlikely array of characters and settings: fairies meeting up with aristocrats, peers and politicians in an enchanted forest is a pretty incredible storyline, even by G&S standards!

For existing Gilbert & Sullivan followers, this production promises not to disappoint, and for those new to G&S, there’s no better place to start!

The show runs from March 27th – 31st 2012, 7.30pm each evening (Saturday matinee 2.30pm) at The Redgrave Theatre, Clifton.  Tickets £14,Concessions £11, Family Tickets & Group Discounts available.  Box Office: Tel: (0117) 907 9122. Email: boxoffice@bristolgsos.co.uk Online: www.bristolgsos.co.uk
