A Grand Day Out for CharityJuly 3rd, 2012
On July 29th, dog walkers will descend on Tyntesfield Park to take part in A Grand Day Out and raise money for both children and dogs with the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and Wallace and Gromits Childrens Foundation.
On July 17th, international celebrities Wallace and Gromit visited Tyntesfield Park and met with some of the dogs that have benefitted from the Kennel Club Charitable Trust.
Just this March, Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group was given £3,000 by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to help with ongoing veterinary fees and building an extra kennel. The charity, based in Hallen, specialises in helping Greyhounds and Lurchers, and has helped hundreds of dogs in the past three years.
Trustee, Geraldine Watkins explains Bristol DAWG first opened its doors to Greyhounds and Lurchers in January 2009, but didnt actually become a registered charity until April 2010. During this time we have rehomed in excess of 300 dogs, which we are extremely proud of.
It hasnt been easy and unfortunately like most charities we are confined by the amount of money we have, which is why A Grand Day Out is such a good idea and we hope to see many Bristolian dogs taking part to help their fellow canines.
Its not just dogs that are benefitting, but children too. Lauren Vincent, Fundraising Manager for the Grand Appeal, the Bristol Childrens Hospital Charity said: We are so grateful to Wallace & Gromits Childrens Foundation for their fantastic support through a Grand Day Out. Not only is this a fantastic family day out, funds raised will greatly help our current appeal to support sick children with cancer by providing a rooftop conservatory playroom, a parents kitchen and en-suite facilities for patients.
The British public and their dogs are being encouraged to get out and about with their family and friends to help raise money for both the Kennel Club Charitable Trust and Wallace & Gromits Childrens Foundation with the walks that are taking place throughout the summer. As well as the Bristol walk, there will be one in Essex in August and Lincolnshire in September and anyone who misses out on these fantastic walks is being encouraged to host their own sponsored dog walk with the help of A Grand Day Out on September 13th and 14th.
A Grand Day Out is a fun way for dog owners and non-dog owners alike, of all ages and abilities, to help sick children in hospitals and hospices and help make a difference to dogs lives.
Elizabeth Carrington-Porter, UK Member Development Manager from Foresters which is sponsoring the event for the second year running, said: Healthy family time is what Foresters is all about and A Grand Day Out is exactly that. Encouraging all the family to take their four-legged friend out for a wonderful walk in the countryside will not only provide families with a lovely opportunity to spend time together but also help to raise much needed funds for poorly children and dogs throughout the UK.
To join Wallace & Gromit on Sunday July 29th at 11-11.30am in Tyntesfield Park, Bristol, visit www.agranddayout.org.uk, fill in the registration form and get raising money for Wallace & Gromits Childrens Foundation and the Kennel Club Charitable Trust. Every penny you raise will be used to help sick children in hospitals and hospices across the UK and make a difference for dogs.Back to news
