Long Business Description

Friends of Horfield Common (FoHC) first started in 2006 when a group of local residents came together to maintain and improve the state of Horfield Common for the benefit and enjoyment of the local community. The common is a city-owned park which consists of a series of green spaces which stretch from the Ardagh on Kellaway Avenue to Horfield Leisure Centre on Dorian Road.

After a period of inactivity, FoHC is once again (2025) active with new members, working to promote an understanding of the common’s natural environment and, in the face of climate change and the general decrease in biodiversity, organising a number of relevant environmental projects. Most recently, interested volunteers have participated in the regular monthly litter picks on the last Saturday of every month (except December), cleaning the wildlife pond, digging wildflower patches, hay-raking to develop meadow patches, tree walks, bat walks. Everyone welcome to come and join in!

FoHC is now a member Bristol City Council’s Parks Forum, coordinating their public activities with the council’s Parks Department and cooperating with other relevant groups, especially the Ardagh Community Trust. General meetings, open to any interested local people, are held approximately every two months in the Garden Room at the Ardagh. Stay up to date with activities via their Facebook page and website, or email FoHC’s coordinator, Lucy Haslam, for further information:
