Scottish Country Dancing (SCD) is an activity of proven health benefit for exercising body and mind, and is enjoyed Worldwide, by people of many different nationalities. Bristol Westbury Scottish Country Dance Club (BWSCDC) is one of 2 SCD groups in Bristol. Classes, which have an emphasis on making SCD fun and friendly, are held on Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm weekly from Sept. to May, at St.Peter’s Church Hall, The Drive, Henleaze BS9 4LD. Beginners, Improvers and Experienced dancers are all welcome. No special kit or partner is required; just comfy clothes, soft flat shoes, and a smile. Everyone mixes with each other for each different dance. For newcomers, the first night is free; then classes are £6 per night for non-members; £5 for members. Membership is £10 per year. Additionally, several organised dances to live music are held each year, either by BWSCDC or by Bristol RSCDS (Royal Scottish Country Dance Society – who meet on Thursday evenings in Oatley Hall, St.Monica Trust, BS9), and are open to both groups, and more widely to members of groups across the South-West. BWSCDC also supports local charities, raising over £1700 for Bristol NW Foodbank during 2022/3.
