Sumer events with Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

Summer events at Bristol Museums for young people and teenagers

Do you know a budding artist, want-to-be performer or young archaeologist?

This summer, Bristol Museums are hosting a new and inspiring range of creative courses aimed at age groups between 8-17 years.

These one day events are designed to nurture existing talents and develop new skills among young people, whilst helping parents to engage and entertain older children and teenagers during the school holidays.

The events take place at either Bristol Museum & Art Gallery or M Shed and vary in duration from 3 hours to 6 hours. Covering a range of interests, there is a chance for young people to work directly with a professional actor, design their own canvas bag, handle real archaeological finds and practice hieroglyphics before creating their own mini-mummy.

For younger visitors, Bristol Museums will be running family friendly activities every Wednesday at Blaise Castle House Museum from 11am-3pm throughout August.

On Wednesday 9 and Wednesday 30 August there is a chance for children to create their own animal stories with local children’s author Rachel Carter.

On Wednesday 16 August there will be a dressing up day where children can explore clothes and fashion and imagine they once lived in the 18th century mansion house before making a Victorian paper doll.

Next up is Sticky adventures on Wednesday 23 August, where families are encouraged to explore the parklands and try their hands at stick-based weaving, crown making and other stick-tastic activities and games. These family events are drop-in and pay what you think.

Families can also visit Bristol Museums’ latest exhibitions:

Skeletons: our buried bones is currently on display at M Shed.  The exhibition presents 12 human skeletons from Bristol and London and comes complete with a hands-on bone lab proving popular with visitors of all ages.  Meanwhile, don’t miss the opportunity to come face to face with a Jurassic beast in Pliosaurus!, the latest exhibition to open at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.

The Red Lodge Museum and The Georgian House Museum are also open during August, providing a chance to step back in time and see how people used to live centuries ago. These beautiful period houses are located right in the centre of Bristol. Great for a rainy day!
